The concept of TURNTABLE originated from the desire to
create a platform for music producers to share their
creativity and ideas with fellow producers and industry
professionals. Mark Hines, Creative Director the of Marksmen
Guerrilla Production Network, and Rene-John Sandy of
Blacksmith Management and Spitkickers, formed TURNTABLE
together in 1998.That year, CD burning technology became
mainstream, allowing producers to take their creations from
the studio to the public. Mark and Rene saw this opportunity
and created a venue in which producers could hear their
creations in a club and receive feedback from the crowd. The
event quickly evolved into a laboratory environment for
musicians to experiment with their tracks, the only policy
being that the music represented at TURNTABLE were
'STRICTLY BEATS'
: No lyrics or vocals allowed.
Over time, eager requests for the event forced more regular
gatherings which draw, in addition to the core following of
producers and beat fans, media professionals from the tv,
film, music, internet, mobile technology and gaming industries.
TURNTABLE has become the new marketplace for fresh audio
content while maintaining it
's rep as a post-work hideout for
the savvy.
